Leopold Conservation Education Area

The Leopold Conservation Education Area is a 140 acre public access area near Lake Perry Kansas.  The property is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers.  The lease to the land is held by the Pheasants Forever Chapter 543 from Topeka, Kansas.  In partnership with Pheasants Forever, John Dewey Learning Academy students work to improve, maintain and encourage community use of this environmental resource.  Students help to maintain and develop new trails, wildlife viewing areas, educational kiosks, and amenities.  The LCEA is used annually for the JDLA Water Festival which provides quality environmental education about water taught by the JDLA students to elementary students from the community.  In addition to this large event, the LCEA is used almost weekly by JDLA students to drive home the core lessons of their academic curriculum.  The site is frequently used by community groups for camping and educational activities.  For reservations contact Denise at JDLA 785-887-6004.
